Robot Hand Towels

You know your Robot obsession is public knowledge when you're out at a client lunch, and one of your guests makes a point to send you a link about a new Indie shop (think Etsy) that is full of Robot love.

I don't know anything about Shanalogic.com apart from the fact that these Hand Towels will go great it our bathroom.

Robot Chalkboard Decals

I need a reason to buy something from Moo - and I finally think that I've found it. A work colleague passed on these awesome chalkboard designs. Who says Robots can't work in the kitchen?

RobotVision

Thanks to TrendCentral for this tip off..... RobotVision!

Already, you thought the iPhone was a modern day wonder, but this application takes its powers a step beyond into Jetsons territory. This augmented reality app uses Bing Local Search, along with the accelerometer and compass technologies of the iPhone 3GS, to superimpose points of interest within a user's area onto their phone's video screen. Also, it can display geotagged Flickr photos in the vicinity. Taken to its Twitterverse extreme, Robotvision could transform the microblogging service into a matchmaking one, allowing users to find and engage nearby tweeters. Imagine getting your dumpling fix in Chinatown and suddenly being alerted to the fact that your crush is blocks away cruising the latest exhibit at the New Museum. Stalking suddenly takes on a whole new, and not so creepy, face.

Robots for Baby

I have a friend who is having a baby - and is planning to do the nursery Robot Themed. Needless to say I have nominated myself as the interior designer.

First thing on the list are bed sheets - the brief is for Robots - "but not the scary kind"

The Land of Nod has some gorgeous sheet sets.

And Target also has this cute set.

A is for Astro Boy

A is for Astroy Boy, the Robot of Japan.
Built with a heart by a clever science man.
With arm and leg rockets and lights for eyes
he could shoot lazers using his thighs.

Thank you to Hemmy.net for the image of Astro Boy created from Train Tickets

Blog Alert: Topless Robot!

Not so much about Robots - but more about "nerd news, humour and self loathing". In any case - I like anything with even the vaguest mention of Robots.

Their post about the 12 Most Awesomely Nerdy Breakfast Cereals is worth a read in any case!

There Are Robots in Japan (Again)

Thanks to @jsonego for this link from the Washington Times about the Giant Torayan Robot in Osaka City Hall Japan.

The mechanical sculpture, created by Osaka native artist Kenji Yanobe, has been set at the lobby to promote Aqua Metropolis Osaka 2009, an upcoming event that stimulates people to reconsider a waterfront life style in Japan's second biggest city...

Why not in Sydney?

Giant Robot Spiders

Thanks again to Tom for this link!

This year is the 150th anniversary of the Port of Yokohama. It is a pretty important event since it represents the opening of Japan to the world after many centuries of closeness during the Edo period. The Port of Yokohama was one of the first five ports of Japan that opened their traffic to international commerce in 1859.

One of the first events of the 150th anniversary celebration was the arrival of two giant spiders from France created by the french group La Machine. The spiders have been walking around Yokohama during the last three days, it has been spectacular, these are some of my shots:

Robot Cupcakes

I love my job sometimes. Having to spend hours at a time looking through websites to create media plans for clients - I often come across the most wonderfully random blog posts. Like this amazing post on The Toy Zone. 20 Tasty Cupcake Recipes.

I thought that the Hamburgers were gret - but how excited was I when I cam across the Robot Cupcakes!?

A robot that can keep a beat

Thanks to @damokeeffe for feeding my Robot hunger with this very cool post from the Amnesia Blog.

Cute.

Fantastic Robot Art

It's very easy to create disposable Robot art. You know - the badges, soaps and other plastic goodies. But there are very few people who create high end robot art. With Oils, Canvas and a huge amount of time. Eric Joyner is one of the few artists out there producing such valuable works. Check out an interview with him and a selection of his other pieces of Robotic Art on Fecal Face.

Thanks to AG_Reeves for the tip off.

Giant Robot Beetle

Tom is back again with another great Robotic YouTube Video. This time it's a Giant Beetle Robot. Well... Big In Japan I guess.....

Lime Robot Love Soap

When my sister went to Mexico last year, she brought me back some great Robot Window gels for the bathroom. I now have found the next best bathroom accessory. This Lime Robot Love Soap is "made with moisturizing glycerin and creamy shea butter. They are made with 3 layers of soaps and have the uplifting scent of lime added!"

The designer is Love Lee Soaps and you can see some of their other fantastic designs on their FlickR page.

Does it surprise you that this link was from Etsy and was sent to me from my husband. In recent years most of my birthday and Christmas presents have come from Etsy (all Robots of course)... and my birthday IS coming up soon...

There's a Robot in my Eye!

Knowing how much I love Robots - an old friend emailed me this snippet of a T-Shirt that made it into his email inbox.

Wanting to find out more - I soon discovered where and how we can buy this amazing fashion item.

The guys at TeeHunter have done a great little write up:

Augh! I got ROBOT in my eye! goes the old saying…and now it is forever immortalised on this great tshirt from BOHDA TE. Tee Hunter is a sucker from Robots and while this colour sucks a little, it is in keeping with the rusty, metal theme. Huray!

And for those wanting to purchase - here you go.

Robotic Ants

Have I told you about my friend Tom?

He writes a really wonderful blog and also shares my passion for Robots. Unlike me, Tom has a very creative and practical mind and can actually create wonderful Robots and other artistic creations.

Now Tom lives in Germany and instead of Postcards - he sends me random Robotic bits and pieces.

The latest message from Tom was in the form of a Robotic Ant.... check the YouTube video. It's great.

A-Pod is an ant inspired hexapod robot with a 2 DOF abdomen (tail), a 3 DOF head with large mandibles. 6 legs with 3 DOF each. Total 25 servos. This video demonstrates body movement and mandible control....

The track is also way cool: Sound track: Artist: Trifonic with Lies (Instrumental).

The Most Adorable Robot... Ever

You know that it's a big Robot News Story when three friends send you the same story in one day. And with the words Adorable and Robot used in the headline - you know it's a winner.

The Gizmodo guys summed up the cuteness pretty well:

The tweenbot, a cardboard-bodied, cheerful little bugger, is equipped with a flag stating its intended destination. Since it can only move forward, it depends on the kindness of strangers to guide it and remove obstacles.

There's also a bunch of other news stories about this little fellow too.

Thanks to @wiredlogophile, @jimmyville and @jyesmith for the Tweet-date.

Robot Republic

I was playing around with the super speed of TwitZap when I came across this wonderful short Robot Animation film on The ABC - by Adam Dunca.

Take 3 mins and check it out....

SYNOPSIS
Left to fend for themselves, five giant robots that have long outlived their evil scientist creators wander the world in a search for meaning. In this instalment they grapple with quantum physics...with predictable results.

Introducing The Slobots

I received an email last week from Mike Slobot. He's the creator of Slobots - created out of "found objects, plastics, thrift store finds, toys and other stuff".

You should check out is website www.slobots.com

My favourite to date is SLO-HERREN (Pictured) who Mike classifies as One-of-a-Kind' Robot.

And here's a blurb from his website too:

Not very far into the future, robots existed in many facets of everyday life... As the demand for new technology raced on, many of the earliest robots found themselves without homes or jobs or families.
They began to search for new meaning in their lives, in many parts of the galaxy, and even into the farthest reaches of the universe... Welcome to the world of "The Slobots™!!"

Kraftwerk - Live 1981 - Photos

You can't be a Robot fanatic and not love Kraftwerk. Thanks to @kidcalmdown who found these photos from Charles Robinson. I wish I was there. Though seeing them at the Big Day Out in 2003 was a very special show.

Robot Coasters

I love my coffee table. Currently it has a stack of (mostly unread) TIME magazines, 4 remote controls, a no smoking sign I tool from an Irish pub in China and a stack of Misfits Coasters. I now know what I am missing. These beautiful Robot Coasters.

These have been created by Julia Davey for her White Elephant range.

Thanks to Rollagirl9 for the tip.

Dressing Up Robot

When I was 6, I made a Robot costume from a cardboard box and tin foil. Now that I am a few decades older, my choice of Robot wear needs to be more sophisticated.

Lucky there are designers like See By Chloe whose Robot Print Dress are much more in tune with my current style.

A great example of online retailing too - as usual - from a US site. Love the fact you can magnify the material.

Robot Photos from @jyesmith

I always smile when someone takes the time to send me a Robot picture they have found in their own travels. I like these Robots. Unusual plastic shapes. Plus I love the fact they are sitting on the same shelf as these weird African dolls. What is the connection?
